Illustrating The Secret Garden: The Finished Illustration

We partnered with York Theatre Royal and Little Vikings to bring the outside, inside for Bloom! Festival 2018. Over the course of a sunny Saturday, we illustrated the windows of the theatre and encouraged visitors to join us. We were inspired by the nearby gardens and used this in our drawings.

We illustrated a set of window panes, whilst allowing the public to contribute to the rest to create a collaborative experience. All ages participated with children being the most enthusiastic to join in! Everyone used white chalk pens to make their mark. We used one-colour to create a unity between the different illustrations. By the end of the day we had produced a large-scale illustrated mural for all to enjoy.

There was plenty to get involved with. As part of the activity, we also designed a fun colouring-in sheet for children. This meant families could extend their experience from the theatre to their home by taking the creativity away with them.

The illustrated window mural was unveiled slowly over the day allowing the public to experience the full process from beginning to end. You can see the finished mural below. Thanks so much to everyone who visited us on the day and to York Theatre Royal for hosting this activity. We had a brilliant experience and the atmosphere in the city was so lively during the festival. We're hoping that Bloom! will return for 2019!
