Creating an iconic identity for an art exhibition

The brief

Buttercrumble partnered with Harrogate Council and the Mercer Art Gallery to create an engaging and artistic exhibition identity for Harrogate’s Open Exhibition. The designs were inspired by the Mercer Art Gallery’s sophisticated architecture, and the work submitted by Yorkshire’s artists.

"Embracing […] those with a connection to Harrogate, the Mercer Art Gallery Autumn Open Exhibition provides a high profile, visual platform for contemporary regional artists to present their work to the public".

The results

The designs allowed the Mercer Gallery to advertise the application process for artists and invite the public to view the exhibition. Previously, the Harrogate Open had no clear identity. Their new designs mean the Harrogate Open will always be prepared with strong visual resources they can use over many years.
